the ratio of boys to girls at the beach cleanup was 7:8. If there were 42 boys, how many girls were there?

Let the no.of girls be 'x'

By Qn,
 \frac{42}{x}  =   \frac{7}{8}   \\ \\  \frac{6}{x}  =  \frac{1}{8}
ie
x = 48
Thus no.of girls=x=48
