The ratio of boys to girls in a school is 4:5. One day of the boys 3/4 and 1/5 of the girls were absent. If 8 less pupils had been absent, 3/4 of the school would have been present. Calculate the number of the pupils in the school on that day.

Step-by-step explanation:

Total be x

2x/3=total g, absent g=2x/3*1/5=2x/15

x/3=total b, absent b=x/3*3/4=x/4

Total absent =2x/15+x/4=23x/60

i.e 23/60 of total students are absent

Present =1–23/60=37/60 Answer...
