The ratio of copper and zinc in an alloy is 5 : 3. If the weight of the alloy is 488gm,find the weight of zinc in the alloy.

copper=5x
zinc=3x
5x+3x=488
8x=488
x=61
weight of zinc in alloy is 3x
=3*61
=183g

let copper be 5x and zinc be 3x
the weight of these both are 488
so,
5x+3x=488
8x=488
x =488/8
x=61
as you want to find Zinc's (3x) weight,
3*61= 183
therefore,the weight of Zinc in the alloy is 183gm
