take the sum of ratio numbers 3+2=5

therefore , there are five dogs in three
so, 1 dog will be 3/5
dogs in 30 will be =
 \frac{3 \times 30}{5}
so there are 18 dogs in the shelter.
And 12 cats in the shelter.

hope it helps you

The ratio of dogs and cats is 3:2
Let the dogs at shelter are 3x
Then cats must be 2x
Total no. of animals if only cats and dogs are present there = 2x +3x =30
=>5x=30
=> x= 6
No.of dogs = 3x=3×6 =18
