Let the number of girls be x & number of boys be 3x.

x+3x=40
4x=40
x=10

Therefore,number of boys in class : 3x = 3*10=30

poogboom634: we have to draw a graph here,does that mean we have to make a graph on cartesian plane,with two variables ,x and y ?

Let the no. of girls be x and boys be 3x.
Therefore,
Equation becomes: x +3x = 40
=> 4x=40
so, x=10.

Since, no. of girls =10
and,
no. of boys= 30.
