Answer: 1500 and 1750

Step-by-step explanation:

The ratio of incomes of two persons is 6:7

∴ Let their incomes be 6x and 7x

The ratio of their savings is 2:3

∴ Let their savings be 2y and 3y

expenses = income - savings

person 1 spends 600

6x - 2y = 600     ..... 1

person 2 spends 400

7x - 3y = 400     ..... 2

To use the method of elimination

equation 1 can be rewritten as 18x - 6y = 1800 by multiplying all the terms by 3

equation 2 can be rewritten as 14x - 6y = 800 by multiplying all the terms by 2

Subtracting equation 2 from 1

(18x - 6y) - (14x - 6y) = 1800 - 800

18x - 6y - 14x + 6y = 1000

4x = 1000

x = 250

Hence the income of the two persons = 6x = 6 X 250 = 1500 and 7x = 7 X 250 = 1750
