GIVEN :

† Ratio of length of parallel sides of a trapezium is 2:5. Distance between them is 10 cm. If the area of trapezium is 720cm²

TO FIND :

† Length of parallel sides

Solution :

★ Ratio of length of parallel sides = 2 : 5

★ Distance between parallel sides = 10 cm

★ Area of trapezium = 720 cm²

Let the parallel sides be 2x and 3x

\\{\underline{\boxed{\bf{\red{Area\:of\:trapezium=\dfrac{1}{2}\times{(a+b)}\times{h}}}}}}\\\\

:\implies\sf 720 = \dfrac{1}{2}\times{(2x+5x)}\times{10}\\\\

:\implies\sf 720=\dfrac{1}{2}\times{7x}\times{10}\\\\

:\implies\sf 720=5\times{8x}\\\\

:\implies\sf \dfrac{720}{5}=8x\\\\

:\implies\sf 144=8x\\\\

:\implies\sf x=\cancel\dfrac{114}{8}\\\\

:\implies\sf x=18cm\\\\

Length of parallel sides :

Length of the first parallel side = 2x = 2 × 18 = 36 cm

Length of the second parallel side = 5x = 5 × 18 = 90 cm
