males=x

females=12+x

ratio=3:5

males:females

3x:12+5x

3x/12+5x

3x-5x/12

-2x/12

12/2x

Answer:

 \frac{x}{x + 12}  =  \frac{ 3}{5}

x --- male

x+12 -- female

3(x+12)=5x

3x+36=5x

5x-3x=36

2x=36

x=36÷2

x=18

total people = 18 +(18+12)

=48
