first you will find the actual amount of water and milk

the ratio is 5:3

let us consider the common number to be x

the quantity of milk = 5x

the quantity of water = 3x

5x+3x=64

8x=64

x=64/8

x=8

the quantity of milk is 5x

5(8)

40 liter

the quantity of water is 3x

3(8)

24 liter

in the second step will be the ratio 3:5

you interchange the value

the quantity of milk = 24 liter

the quantity of water = 40 liter

the amount of water is added =the quantity of water in 2 and step - the quantity of water in 1st step

40-24

16 liter

ans = the quantity of water required to change the ratio from 5:3 to 3:5 is 16 liter
