Let the quantity of milk and water which is 5:3 in pot A be X and the quantity of milk and water which is 2:3 in pot B be Y

Milk in pot A=5X/8 and milk in pot B=2Y/5

Water in pot A=3X/8 and water in pot B=3Y/5

Then 5X/8+2Y/5=3X/8+3Y/5

(25X+16Y)/40=(15X+24Y)/40

multiply both sides by 40

25X+16Y=15X+24Y

25X-15X=24Y-16Y

10X=8Y

X:Y::8:10 or

X:Y:: 4:5

The ratio these mixtures must be mixed so that the quantity of milk is same as the quantity of water in new mixture is 4:5
