The ratio of money in Terry's bank account to Faye's bank account was 3:5.
Terry then put £220 in his account and Faye withdrew £300 from her account.
They now had the same amount in their accounts.
How much did they initially have altogether?

Let the common ratio be x then

The amount of money in Terry' S Bank account will be 3x and that in Faye's Band Account will be 5x. So

According to question:

3x+£220=5x-£300

£220+£300=5x-3x

£520=2x

x=£210

Balance of Terry:3x

3×£210

£630

Balance of Faye=5x

5×£210

£1050

Money Altogether=£1050+£630

= £1680

Money Altogether in their account is £1680

Answer: £2080

Step-by-step explanation:

Terry : Faye

3 : 5

3x + 220 : 5x - 300

3x + 220 = 5x - 300

minus 3x on both sides

add 300 on both sides

we get...

520 :2x

so...

divided by 2...

x = 260

260 times 3 is 780

260 times 5 is 1300

780 : 1300

780 + 1300 = £2080
