let expenditure is 4x ,

then saving will be x

we know x+ 4x = 18000

5x=18000

x=3600 =saving

Given,

The ratio of expenditure to the saving = 4:1

Total income = Rs. 18,000

To find,

The saving and expenditure in rupees.

Solution,

We can easily solve this problem by following the given steps.

According to the question,

We have:

The ratio of expenditure to the saving = 4:1

Total income = Rs. 18,000

Now, let's take the expenditure to be 4x and saving to be x.

So,

Expenditure+saving = total income

(4x+x) = Rs. 18,000

5x = Rs. 18,000

x = Rs. (18000/5) [5 was in the multiplication on the left-hand side. So, it is in the division on the right-hand side.]

x = Rs. 3600

Now,

Expenditure = 4x

Expenditure = Rs. (4×3600)

Expenditure = Rs. 14400

Hence, the saving is Rs. 3600 and the expenditure is Rs. 14,400.
