Answer:

let number of boys = 7x

let number of girls = 5x

total number of students  = 7x + 5x = 480

7x + 5x = 480

12x = 480

x = 40

Boys = 7 x 40 = 280

Girls = 5 x 40 = 200

Total = 200 + 280 = 480

Hope this helps...

The ratio of number of boys and number of girls in a school is 7 : 5. If the total number of students in the school is 480, find the number of boys.

 \mathfrak{ \large{ \pink{ \underline{ \purple{  Given: }}}}}

  • Total number of students = 480
  • Ratio of boys and girls = 7:5

 \mathfrak{ \large{ \pink{ \underline{ \purple{  To  \: Find: }}}}}

  • Number of boys

 \mathfrak{ \large{ \pink{ \underline{ \purple{  Solution: }}}}}

Put x in the ratio,

  • Number of boys = 7x
  • Number of girls = 5x

 \large{ \rm \longmapsto \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: 7x + 5x = 480}

 \large{ \rm \longmapsto \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: 12x = 480}

 \large{ \rm \longmapsto \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \: x =  \frac{480}{12} } \\

 \large{ \rm \longmapsto \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \:  \boxed{ \mathfrak{ \green{ x = 40}}}}

Now,

  • Number of boys = 7x = 280

The total number of boys in school are 280.
