The ratio of present age of Ramesh and Mahesh is 5:7. After four years the ratio of their age will be 3:4 .find out their present age. ​

Given,

Ratio of ages of Ramesh : Mahesh = 5 : 7

Let,

  • The present age of Ramesh = 5x
  • The present age of Mahesh = 7x

After four years,

Ratio of ages of Ramesh : Mahesh =  3 : 4

Let,

  • The age of Ramesh after 4 years = 5x + 4
  • The age of Mahesh after 4 years = 7x + 4

\implies\bold{\frac{5x+4}{7x+4}=\frac{3}{4}}

\implies\bold{4(5x+4)=3(7x+4)}

\implies\bold{20x+16=21x+12}

\implies\bold{21x-20x=16-12}

\implies\bold{x=4}

∴ The present age of Ramesh is 5x

= 5 × 4

= 20 Years

∴The present age of Mahesh is 7x

= 7 × 4

= 28 Years

The ratio of present age of Ramesh and Mahesh is 5:7

Let the present age of Ramesh be 5x

Let the present age of Mahesh be 7x.

After 4 years,

Age of Ramesh be 5x +4

Age of Mahesh be 7x +4

And that is, ie,

5x + 4 = 3x     _ [ eq.1]

7x + 4 = 4x     _ [eq. 2]

∵ it is given that after 4 years their ages will be in the ratio 3:4

And it is ,

5x + 4       =   3

7x + 4            4

4 [ 5x + 4 ] = 3[ 7x + 4]

20x + 16 = 21x + 12

16 - 12 = 21x - 20x

4 = x

The present age of Ramesh = 5 x = 5 x 4 = 20

The present age of Mahesh is 7x , 7 x 4 = 28.
