Let the present ages of mother and daughter be x and y respectively.

Given x : y = 5 : 3 ⇒ y = 3x/5

Age of mother 9 years ago = x-9

Age of daughter 9 years ago = y - 9

Given x - 9 = 2(y - 9)
⇒ 9 = 2y -x = 6x/5  - x = x/5

So, x/5 = 9 ⇒ x = 45

y = 3x/5 = 27

So, the present age of mother is 45 years and the present age of daughter is 27 years
