Step-by-step explanation:

Let the present age of mother = x years

let the present age of daughter = y years

according to given condition ,

x / y = 8 / 3

⇒ 3x - 8y = 0 .............(1)

after 5 years :

mother's age = (x + 5) years ; daughter's age = ( y + 5) years

according to the given condition

⇒ 4x + 20 = 9y + 45 ⇒ 4x - 9y = 25 ................(2)

multiply eq. (1) by 4 and eq. (2) by 3 we get

12x - 32y = 0 ..........(3) and 12x - 27y = 75 ...............(4)

subtracting (3) from (4) , we get, 5y = 75 ⇒ y = 15

put y = 15 in (1) , we get x = 40

so, present age of mother = 40 years and daughter = 15 years
