The ratio of present ages of Rahul and his sister is 3 : 4. Before 10 years the ratio of their ages was 13:19. What is Rahul's present age (in years)?

Given :

Ratio of present ages of Rahul and his sister = 3:4 .

Ratio of ages 10 years before = 13:19

To find :

Present age of Rahul .

Solution:

Let the common ratio be x .

Hence , present age of Rahul = 3x

Present age of sister = 4x .

10 years before ,

Rahul's age = 3x - 10

Sister's age = 4x - 10

According to question , before ten years

Rahul's age = 13x

Sister's age = 19 x

Dividing and equating equations of 10 years before ,

  \rm \: \frac{3x - 10}{4x - 10}  =  \frac{13x}{19x}

By cross multiplication

 \rm \implies 19x(3x - 10) = 13x(4x - 10)

 \rm \implies \: 57 {x}^{2}  - 190x = 52 {x}^{2}  - 130x

 \rm \implies 57 {x}^{2}  - 52 {x}^{2}  =  - 130x + 190x

 \rm \implies 5 {x}^{2}  = 60x

 \rm \implies x =  \frac{60x}{5x}

 \rm \implies x = 12

Rahul's present age = 3x

= 3 × 12
