Given :

  • The ratio of present ages of Ramesh and Mahesh is 5:7.
  • After 4 years, the ratio of their ages will be 3:4.

To find :

  • Their present ages.

Solution :

Consider,

  • Present age of Ramesh = 5x years
  • Present age of Mahesh = 7x years

According to the question,

  • After 4 years, the ratio of their ages will be 3:4.

After 4 years,

  • Age of Ramesh = (5x+4) years
  • Age of Mahesh = (7x+4) years

\to\sf{(5x+4):(7x+4)=3:4}

\to\sf{21x+12=20x+16}

\to\sf{21x-20x=16-12}

\to\sf{x=4}

•Present age of Ramesh = 5×4 = 20 years

•Present age of Mahesh = 7×4 = 28 years

____________________

Verification :-

  • Present age of Ramesh = 20 years
  • Present age of Mahesh = 28 years

Ratio of their present ages = 5:7

20:28 = 5:7

→ 5:7 = 5:7

After 4 years,

  • Age of Ramesh = 20+4 = 24 years
  • Age of Mahesh = 28+4 = 32 years

Ratio of their ages ( after 4 years) = 3:4

→ 24:32 = 3:4

→ 3:4 = 3:4

Hence Verified !

Answer:

Given:

  • The ratio of present of Ramesh and Mahesh is 5:7. After four years the ratio of thier age will be 3:4.

Find:

  • Find out thier present age.

Note:

  • According to case 1 - (Let us assume 5x and 7x as present age of Ramesh and Mahesh).
  • According to case 2 - (After four years the ratio age will be 3:4, So let us assume their age after 4 years be (5x + 4) years and (7x + 4) years).

Calculations:

= (5x + 4):(7x + 4)

= 3:4

= 5x + 4/7x + 4

= 34

= 21x + 12 = 20x + 16

= 21 - 20x

= 16 - 12

= 4

Finding their present ages:

= Ramesh = 5 (4) = 20

= Mahesh = 7 (4) = 28

Therefore, 20 year is the present age of Ramesh and 28 years is the present age of Mahesh.
