The ratio of resistivity of two wires is is 2:3.if the length of one wire is 10metres.calculate the length of other wire so that their resistivity are equal

From the equation of resistance of a wire we know that,

R = ρl/A where

ρ is the resistivity

l is the length

A is the area of cross section

From this equation,

RA/l = ρ

Hence

l ∝ 1/ρ

Therefore,

l₁/l₂ = ρ₂/ρ₁  

It is given that

ρ₁/ρ₂ = 2/3 and

l₁ = 10m

Hence

l₂ = ρ₁/ρ₂ * l₁

l₂ = 2/3 * 10 = 20/3

l₂ = 6.66m
