Given : ratio of sodium chloride to ammonium in 100 kg of mixed ammonium     is 7:25

To find : the amount of sodium chloride to be added to 100kg of mixed to make the ratio 9:25

Solution:

ratio of sodium chloride to ammonium in 100 kg of mixed ammonium     is 7:25

sodium chloride = (7/(7 + 25)) * 100 = 700/32  = 175/8  kg

ammonium =  (25/(7 + 25)) * 100 = 2500/32  = 625/8  kg

amount of sodium chloride to be added =  k/8  kg

sodium chloride  =   175/8 + k/8 kg  = (175 + k)/8  kg

ammonium =  625/8  kg

New ratio is 9: 25

=>    (175 + k)/8 :  625/8  = 9 : 25

=>   (175 + k)/ 625  = 9/25

=> 175 + k  = 225

=> k =  50

amount of sodium chloride to be added =  50/8 = 6.25  kg

amount of sodium chloride to be added = 6.25 kg
