Answer:

84 km/hr

Explanation:

Average speed = 5x + 9x + 4x/3 = 18x /3 = 6x km/hr. Therefore, the average speed of the car and train together is = 5x+9x2= 7x = 7 x 12 = 84 km/hr.

Hope it helps you.

Given :-

The ratio of speeds of a car, a train and a bus is 5 : 9: 4. The average speed of the car, the bus and the train is 72 km/hr together.

To Find :-

Average speed

Solution :-

Let the ratio be 5x, 9x and 4x

Now

5x + 9x + 4x/3

18x/3

6x

Now

6x = 72

x = 72/6

x = 12 km/h

Therefore

Speed of car = 5x = 5(12) = 60 km/h

Speed of train = 9x = 9(12) = 108 km/h

Average speed of the car and the train together = 108 + 60/2

Average speed of the car and the train together = 168/2

Average speed of the car and the train together = 84 km/h
