The ratio of students studying Arts, Commerce & Science in an institute in a particular year were in the ratio 8:5:6. If the number of students in the three disciplines increased by30 %, 20 % and 60 % respectively in the next year, what is the new respective ratio?​

Addition of students in the :—

  • Arts stream = 30%
  • Commerce stream = 20%
  • Science stream = 60%

Total number of students after an year in the :—

  • Arts stream = 80x + 80x × 30/100 = 80x + 24x = 104x
  • Commerce stream = 50x + 50x × 20/100 = 50x + 10x = 60x
  • Science stream = 60x + 60x × 60/100 = 60x + 36x = 96x

∴ New ratio = 104:60:96 = 26:15:24
