The present age of their son is 25 years.

Let's understand the concept of ages:

If we consider that "x" years is the present age

Then,

n years hence/later, the age will be = (x + n) years

n years ago, the age was = (x - n) years

If two ages are given in a ratio of a:b, then the ages will be ax and bx respectively.

Let's solve the given problem:

The ratio of the ages of a father, mother and their son is 12 : 11 : 5.

So,

The present age of father = 12x

The present age of mother = 11x

The present age of the son = 5x

5 years ago, Father's age was = (12x - 5) years

5 years ago, the age of the father was equal to the present age of the mother, so we can form the equation as follows:

[Father's age 5 years ago] = [Mother's present age]

⇒ (12x - 5) = 11x

 ⇒ 12x - 11x = 5

 ⇒ x = 5

Therefore,

Their son's present age = 5x = 5 × 5 = 25 years

Thus, the present age of their son is → 25 years.
