Given; the ratio of the ages of father and son at present is 4:1, after 6 years the ratio will become 5:2

To Find; the present age of the son

Solution; Let the age of the son =x

Then the age of the father = 4x

Age of father after 6 years = 4x+6

Age of son after 6 years = x+6

Ratio of age after 6 years =5/2

2(4x+6)=5(x+6)

8x +12 = 5x +30

3x =18

x= 6

Hence the present age of son is 6 years
