let the present age of the father be 6x

let the present age of the son be x

ages after 5 years

the age of the father be 6x+5

the age of the son be x+5

present age of son

6x+5 /x+5=7/2

12x+10=7x +35

12x -7x =35-5

5x = 30

x =6

the present age of son =6 years
