We can simply solve this mathematical problem by using the following mathematical process.

Let, the present age of Kapil = 4x years

And, the present age of Renu = 5x years

(x is a variable)

After 5 years,

Age of Kapil = 4x+5 years

Age of Renu = 5x+5 years

According to the data mentioned in the question,

4x+5+5x+5 = 46

9x+10 = 46

9x = 46-10

9x = 36

x = 4

Present age of Kapil = 4×4 = 16 years

Present age of Renu = 4×5 = 20 years
