The ratio of the ages of tina and rakesh is 9 : 10 respectively. 10 years ago, the ratio of their ages was 4 : 5 respectively. What is the present age of rakesh?

Consider the age of tina and rakesh as 9x, 10x

10 years ago :

Tina's age will be = 9x - 10

Rakesh's age will be = 10x - 10

Ratio of their ages 10 years ago = 4 : 5

According to the question :

 \frac{9x - 10}{10x - 10}  =  \frac{4}{5}

By cross multiplication :

(9x - 10)5 = 4(10x - 10)

45x - 50 = 40x - 40

45x - 40x =  - 40 + 50

5x = 10

x =  \frac{10}{5}

x = 2

Present age of rakesh = 10x = 10(2) = 20 years

Therefore the present age of rakesh is 20 years.
