Let the side of square be a
Area of square =a²
diagonal of a square = ✓2a(using pythagorus theorem)
area of square on diagonal=(✓2a)²=2a²
ratio=a²/2a²=1/2=1:2

let the sides of the sq be a
the using pgt we get the diagonal as
 \sqrt{2} a
the ratio will be
 \frac{ {a}^{2} }{ 2{a}^{2}   }
then ratio =1/2
