D=2×d,

then

D/d = 2/1,

Area of bigger square = 1/2 × D²,

Area of smaller square = 1/2 × d²,

therefore

required ratio of the areas = (1/2 × D²)/(1/2 × d²),

= D²/d²,

= (D/d)²,

= (2/1)²,

= 4/1
