Given :  The ratio of the densities of three liquid is 1/2:1/3:1

To find : densities of their mixtures . If they are mixed in (i) equal volume (ii) equal mass

Solution:

1/2:1/3:1

Density = Mass / Volume

=> Mass = Density * Volume

mixed in (i) equal volume  V each

Total Volume = 3V

Total Mass =  V(1/2)  +  V(1/3) +  V(1)    =  (3V + 2V + 6V)/6

= 11V/6

Density  =  (11V/6)/(3V) =  11/18

Density = 11/18

mixed in  (ii) equal mass  = M  Each

Total Mass =  3M

Total Volume  = M/(1/2) + M/(1/3)  + M/1    =   2M + 3M + M   =  6M

Density =  3M/6M   =       1/2

Density will be  1/2
