Answer :

  • 11 : 4 is the ratio of their ages after 5 years

Given :

  • The ratio of the father's age to the son's age is 4 : 1
  • Product of their ages is 196

To find :

  • Ratio of their ages after 5 years

Solution :

  • Let the father's age be 4x
  • Let the son's age be x

Product of their ages is 196 so,

》196 = 4x × x

》196 = 4 × x²

》196/4 = x²

》49 = x²

》x² = 49

》x = √49

》x = 7

After 5 years,

》Father's age = 4x + 5

》 4(7) + 5

》28 + 5

》33

》Son's age = x + 5

》7 + 5

》12

Now , we have to find the ratio of their ages after 5 years:

  • Father's age = 33
  • Son's age = 12

》33 : 12

》11 : 4

Hence, 11 : 4 is the ratio of their ages after 5 years
