So, No. of boys = 5x

No. of girls = 3x

Total no. of student= 5x+3x=8x

20% of the boys have passed in first class

So, No. of boys passed = \frac{20}{100} \times 5x = x

60% of the girls have passed in first class

So, No. of girls passed = \frac{60}{100} \times 3x =1.8 x

So, Total % of students passed first class = \frac{x+1.8x}{8x} \times 100

                                                                  = \frac{2.8}{8} \times 100

                                                                  = 35

Hence 35%  of the class has passed in first class
