Step-by-step explanation:

So there are 640 students with boys and girls on the ratio of 5:3 so 640/8

Hence number of boys will be 5* (640/8) = 400

No of girls will be 240

Number of girls increased by 30 so total girls now will be 270

New ratio  (400+k)/270 = 14:9

Where k is increment in boys

So 270*14 = 9(400+k)

That is 3780 = 3600 + 9k

Therefore 180 = 9k

So k = 20

Hence increment in boys is 20
