Let the total number of people be x.

Ratio of number men to women=5:4

Sum of the ratio = 9

Therefore, number of men

 \sf = \frac{5}{9} \times x

Given that, total number of men was 250.

So,

 \sf\frac{5}{9} \times x = 250

On solving the equation, we get,

 \sf x = 450

Hence, the total number of people present in the conference is 450.(Answer.)

Answer: Total number of people attending the conference is 450.

Concept : Ratio and Proportion

Given : Ratio of number of men to the number of women attending a

conference is 5:4. Number of men was 250

To Find : Total umber of people present in the conference.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the common ratio be x.

∴ Number of men attending the conference = 5x

∴ According to the question :

⇒ 5x = 250

∴ x = 250/5 = 50

∴ Number of women attending the conference = 4x = 4 * 50 = 200

∴ Total number of people present in the conference = 250 + 200 = 450.
