Let the rational between ages of A and B be x. Hence their ages are 5x and 6x.

After 5 years, the respective ratio between the age of A and B will be 7 : 9.

After 5 years ago their ages were (5x - 5) and (6x - 5) and their ratio 7/9

(5x - 5) / (6x - 5) = 7/9

Cross multiplication

9 (5x - 5) = 7 (6x - 5)

45x - 45 = 42x - 35

45x - 42x = 45 - 35

3x = 10

x = 10/3

The rational is 10/3, therefore their resoective ages.

A's age 5x = 5 × 10/3 = - 50/3 = 600/3 months = 200 months = 16 years 8 months

B's age 6x = 6 × 10/3 = 60/3 = 720/3 months = 240 months = 20 years

Age of A is 16 years 8 months and age of B is 20 years

Answer : The ages of both A and B are 16 years 8 months and 20 years respectively

The ratio of their ages = A's age /B's age

= 200 months / 240 months

= 5 : 6

Means answer is correct
