Answer:

The son's present age is 16 years

Step-by-step explanation:

Solution : Let X be the present age of son and

                Y be the present age of father

Given : X :Y = 2 :5

           X/Y = 2/5

            Y = 5/2 X

               = 2.5 X -------------1

After 4 years, X+4 : Y+4 = 5 :11

(X+4 )/(Y+4) = 5/11 ----------2

Substituting 1 in 2, we get

(X+4)/(2.5X +4) = 5/11

Cross multiplying, we get

(X+4) x 11 = 5 x (2.5X + 4)

11X + 44 = 12.5X + 20

1.5X = 24

X = 24/1.5

  = 16 years

Y= 2.5 X

  = 2.5 x 16

  = 40 years

Sons present age is 16 years and father's present age is 40 years
