Proper question,

The ratio of present ages of Albert and Salim is 5 : 9. Five years hence ratio of their ages will be 2 : 5. Find their present ages.

Given

  • Present ages of albert and salim = 5 : 9
  • Five years hence ratio of there ages = 2 : 5

To find :

  • Find their present ages?

Solution :

Let the common multiple be X

Therefore, present age of Albert = 5x years

And present age of Salim = 9x years

After five years

  • The age of Albert = ( 5x + 5) years
  • And the age of Salim = ( 9x + 5) years

According to the condition

Five years hence ratio of their ages will be 2 : 5

 \sf \: \longmapsto \frac{5x + 5}{9x + 5} = \frac{2}{5} \\

cross multiplication

\longmapsto \sf \: 2(5x + 5) = 2(9x + 5)

\longmapsto \sf \: 25x + 25 = 18x + 10

\longmapsto \sf \: 25 - 10 = 18x - 25x

\longmapsto \sf \: 15 = 7x

\longmapsto \sf \: \cancel \frac{15}{7} = x \\

\longmapsto \frak{x = 2 }

Hence,

The percentage of Albert age = 5x = 5 × 2 = 10 years

And percentage of Salim = 9x = 9× 2 = 18 years

Therefore,

The percentage of Albert and Salim present age be 10 years and 18 years
