let present age of madan and kamal be - 8x and 5x
madan age after eight years= 8x + 8
A/Q
8x + 8 = 40
8x = 40 - 8
x = 32/8
x =. 4
kamal present age = 5x = 5 * 4= 20 years
kamal age before six years = 20 - 6= 14 years

Given
madan's age/kamal's age = 8/5..(1)
After 8 years madan's age =40
So madan's present age = 32
In equation (1)
32/kamal's age =8/5
Kamal's age= 32*5/8 =20 years
So kamal's age before 6 years= 20-6
14 years.
