The ratio of the velocities of two bodies thrown in an upward direction is 2:5. Prove that the ratio of their height attained will be h1:h2 = 4:25.​

Explanation:

Let the velocity of the two bodies be 2u and 5u respectively

Now at topmost position the vertical velocity of the bodies becomes zero, i.e. v = 0

v2 – u2 = 2(-g)h

=> h = u2/2g

But in this case

H1 = (2u)2/2g

= 4u2/2g

H2 = (5u)2/2g

= 25u2/2g

H1:H2 = 4:25
