let the adjacent sides be 5x , 4x

in a parallelogram opposite sides are equal so the length of other two sides must be 5x , 4x

Given perimeter of ||gm = 18cm

=> 5x + 4x + 5x + 4x = 18 {∵ perimeter is sum of all sides }

=> 18x = 18 => x = 1

∴ adjacent sides of a parallelogram = 5cm , 4cm

Given:

The perimeter of the parallelogram is 18 cm.

To find:

The length of the sides of the parallelogram.

Solution:

1) Parallelogram is the polygon in which the opposites sides are equal to each other and parallel to each other.

2) The ratio of the adjacent sides of parallelogram is 5:4.

3) So the length of parallelogram is 5x and breadth is 4x.

Perimeter of parallelogram is 2(L+B) = 2(5x+4x) = 18x

4) According to the question the perimeter is 18 cm

so,

18x =18

x = 18/18

x = 1

now,

the length of the parallelogram is 5x = 5.1 = 5cm

the breadth of the parallelogram is 4x = 4.1 = 4cm

The length of the sides of the parallelogram are  5 cm and 4 cm.
