Question:

The ratio of two numbers is 16:1. If 5 is added to smallest number then greater number becomes 8 times of the smallest number. find the greater number.

Answer:

Greater number is 80 .

Solution:

It is given that;

The ratio of two numbers is 16:1.

Thus,

Let the greater number be 16x and the smallest number be x.

According to the question;

If 5 is added to smallest number then greater number becomes 8 times of the smallest number.

Thus;

=> 16x = 8(x + 5)

=> 16x = 8x + 40

=> 16x - 8x = 40

=> 8x = 40

=> x = 40/8

=> x = 5

Hence,

Smallest number = x = 5

Greater number = 16x = 165 = 80

\Huge{\mathfrak{Greatest\:number = 80}}

\bold{Solution} :

Let the greatest number be '16x'

And the smallest number be 'x'

According to question :-

⇒ 16x = 8(x+5)

⇒ 16x = 8x + 40

⇒ 16x - 8x = 40

⇒ 8x = 40

⇒ x = 40/8

x = 5

\rule{300}{2}

⇒ Smallest number = x = 5

⇒ Greatest number = 16x = 16(5) = 80

Therefore,

Greatest number = 80.
