SOLUTION

let x be the smaller number

16:33= x:264

using ratio and proportion

also be written as

16/33 = x/264

therfore , 16/33=x/264

(16)(264)/33 = x

4224/33=x

128=x

128 is the smaller number

To find:

We have to find the smallest number.

Solution:

The ratio of the two numbers is 16:33.

Let the numbers be 16x and 33x.

The larger number is 264.

So, we can write-
