Answer:

Smaller number = 14

Greater number = 21

Step-by-step explanation:

Original Ratio = 2 : 3

Let the smaller number be 2x and the greater number be 3x

Adding 1 to the smaller number, we get = 2x + 1

Subtracting 1 from the greater number, we get = 3x - 1

New ration becomes = 3 : 4

(2x + 1) ÷ (3x - 1) = 3 ÷ 4

After cross-multiplication, we get:

4(2x + 1) = 3(3x - 1)

⇒8x + 4 = 9x - 3

⇒ 4 + 3 = 9x - 8x

x = 7

The smaller number is

2x ⇒ 2 × 7

⇒ 14

The greater number is

3x ⇒ 3 × 7

⇒ 21

The numbers are 14 and 21

Hope this answer helps you.
