Let it be 4x and 5x.

If 15 is added to both ⇒ 4x + 15 and 5x + 15.

It gives the result 7:8 ⇒ 4x + 15/5x + 15 = 7/8.

Cross multiplying,

8(4x + 15) = 7(5x + 15)

32x + 120 = 35x + 105

32x - 35x = 105 - 120

-3x = -15

x = -15/-3

x = 5

Therefore the numbers are 4x = 4*5 = 20 and 5x = 5*5 = 25 and their sum is 20 + 25 = 45.
