Question:-

  • The ratio of two numbers is 4.9. When 5 is subtracted from each of them, the new ratio becomes 3:8. find the numbers.

To Find:-

  • Find the number.

Given:-

  • The ratio of two numbers is 4.9. When 5 is subtracted from each of them, the new ratio becomes 3:8.

Solution:-

Let the numbers be "4x" and "9x"

\tt\implies \: \dfrac { 4x - 5 } { 9x - 5 } = \dfrac { 3 } { 8 }

\tt\implies \: 8( 4x - 5 ) = 3( 9x - 5 )

\tt\implies \: 32x - 40 = 27x - 15

\tt\implies \: 32x - 27x = 40 - 15

\tt\implies \: 5x = 25

\tt\implies \: x = \cancel\dfrac { 25 } { 5 }

\tt\implies \: x = 5

Hence ,

  • First number is 4x = 20

  • Second number is 9x = 45
