The ratio of volume of gases obtain at anode when aq. NaCl and aq. Na2SO4 is electrolysed, connected in series is respectively

Explanation:

Electrolysis of aq. NaCl

Cathode      Anode

Na⁺                  U⁻

H₂O             H₂O

 ∴  2U⁻     --------->      U₂ + 2e       U₂(anode)

2e + H₂O     --------->  H₂ +2OH

2NaCl  + 2H₂O  --------->  U₂+ H₂ + 2NaOH

∴ 2F ' current

∴ the ratio is 2:1

   U₂ : O₂

For NaSO₄

Cathode                             Anode

Na⁺                                     SO₄

H₂O                                   H₂O

Anode :

∴  H₂O     --------->   2H⁺ + 1/2 O₂ + 2e

2e + 2H₂O     --------->    H₂ + 2U⁻

H₂O   --------->   H⁺ + 1/2 O₂     (1/2 O₂   -anode)
