Ratio of water to remaining part of syrup is 89:11

Total parts = 89+11=100

Let the syrup be x litres

89x/100 litres of water and 11x/100 litres of remaining syrup

When ‘y’ litres of water is added ratio becomes 90:10 i.e. 9:1

= > [(89x/100) – y] / (11x/100) =9/1

89x + 100y = 99x

y = x/10

So, amount of water to be added is 1/10 parts of the total syrup.

Example:

For 100 litres of original syrup, there will be 89 litres of water and 11 litres of remaining liquid

So to make it in ratio 90:10, we need to add 100/10 litres i.e. 10 litres of water
