The rational number which lies between two rational numbers a and b is  ( a + b ) / 2.

Given: Two rational numbers are a and b.

To Find: The rational number which lies between two rational numbers a and b.

Solution:

1. A rational number is any number that can be represented in the form of p/q with p and q as integers and q not equal to zero.

2. If a rational number is asked to be found between two rational numbers, then it is done by applying a formula,

Required rational number = (x+y)/2     [where x,y are rational numbers]

Applying (2) in the question, we get

Required rational number = ( a + b ) / 2

Hence, The rational number which lies between two rational numbers a and b is  ( a + b ) / 2.
