(The diagram missing in the question is attached below)

Given :

Refractive index  of the prism = 1.5

To Find :

The face from which the incident ray emerges

Solution :

  • The incident angle of the ray is 90°, so the incident ray will not deviate while crossing the face AB of the prism
  • The ray after passing through the face AB will fall on the face AC making an incidence angle 30°
  • Refraction occurs at the face AC from denser to rarer medium, so by using snell’s law

          \mu = \frac{Sini}{Sinr}

          Sinr=\mu \times Sini

          Sinr=1.5\times Sin30

          Sinr=0.75

          r=48.6 ^{0}

The refracted angle is less than 90° so ray passes through the face AC
