The reaction H2+I2------>2HI is carried out in a 1litre flask.

If the same reaction is carried out in a 2 litre flask at the same temperature, the equilibrium constant will be same.

This is because :

  • Equilibrium constant Keq doesn't depend on change of volume.

  • It is the reaction quotient Q which is lower, equal to or higher than equilibrium constant according to Le Chateliers principle.

  • Equilibrium constant changes only when temperature changes.

  • Here, when the volume increases reaction quotient and equilibrium constant remains unchanged as both sides of the reaction has equal number of moles.
